small but mighty

Ants, badgers, locusts, and lizards: at first glance, they may seem insignificant, but they're proof you don't have to be powerful and impressive to make an impact. Today, will you humble yourself enough to learn from those you may normally be tempted to ignore or overlook?


Proverbs 30:24–28 (HCSB):
4 Four things on earth are small,
 they are extremely wise:
the ants are not a strong people,
yet they store up their food in the summer;
hyraxes are not a mighty people,
yet they make their homes in the cliffs;
locusts have no king,
yet all of them march in ranks;
a lizard  can be caught in your hands,
yet it lives in kings’ palaces.

rubbermaid

A glass vase may look pretty, but due to it's nature, if it falls or comes under stress, it cracks. Meanwhile, a Rubbermaid container can bend, flex, be microwaved or frozen, and still last many years. When it comes to obedience and following instructions, I'd rather be a Rubbermaid container than an elegant glass bowl. Wouldn't you?

Proverbs 29:1 (HCSB): One who becomes stiff-necked, after many reprimands will be shattered instantly— beyond recovery.

the traveller

As the traveller who knows where the oases are can appreciate the beauty of the desert, so those who truly enjoy life are the ones who recognize its source!

Proverbs 24:13–14 (HCSB): Eat honey,  my son, for it is good, and the honeycomb is sweet to your palate; realize that wisdom is the same for you. If you find it, you will have a future,
and your hope will never fade.

behind every good man

Behind every good man is an even better woman. 

Proverbs 18:22 (HCSB): A man who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.

A smile doesn't cost anything, but it's effect is priceless. Today, will you look for reasons to smile?

Proverbs 17:22 (HCSB): A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.

presenting problems

In counseling, Ryer's a term called the "presenting problem," which is why people go to a counselor. However, the "presenting problem" is usually the symptom of the real problem. Once the person and counselor know the root cause, healing can occur. In life, our "presenting problems" occur because, at heart, we don't trust God, and it manifests itself through pride, anxiety, and other issues. Today, will you trust God and let Him work out the details?

Proverbs 16:20 (HCSB):  The one who understands a matter finds success,
and the one who trusts in the Lord will be happy.

Fuel filter

The fuel filter in your car keeps junk from getting in the engine and causing damage. If our words are the fuel, and our relationships are the vehicle taking us down the road of life, it's a good idea to have a filter to stop words from damaging those relationships.

Proverbs 15:28 (HCSB): The mind of the righteous person thinks before answering,
but the mouth of the wicked blurts out evil things.

Burning bridges

It’s  easy to burn bridges, hard to maintain them, and even more difficult to rebuild them. Apologizing may not be easy, but it’s easier than rebuilding a relationship, and helps you get where you want to go!

Proverbs 14:9 (HCSB): Fools mock at making restitution,
but there is goodwill among the upright.

work smarter, not harder

In other words, “work smarter, not harder.” The person who applies effort to their tasks will find ways to make them easier and more efficient, bringing recognition and promotion, while the person who “trudges along” will continually face the same tasks and frustrations over and over.

Proverbs 13:15 (HCSB): Good sense wins favor, but the way of the treacherous never changes.

Actions are like money; if you are frivolous with yours, you’ll end up with nothing in the end, and like someone who declares bankruptcy has to let a judge determine where their assets end up, someone else will make decide your fate. Will you be wise with your actions today?

Proverbs 11:29 (HCSB): The one who brings ruin on his household
will inherit the wind, and a fool will be a slave to someone whose heart is wise.
